How our coverage around York works

Most of our work is in York, spreading out to the villages and market towns within easy reach of the city. Every service is available everywhere we cover: installation, servicing, maintenance and repairs, for homes and businesses.

Each area page covers the local building types, the practical points that come up and which council handles planning there. The groups below are just there to help you find your area quickly. They don’t change what we offer.

Is the service the same in outlying villages?

Yes. City centre or a village several miles out, you get the same survey, the same written quote and the same standard of fitting. What changes is the building. Stone cottages, modern estates and commercial units each raise their own questions about pipe routes, wall construction and where an outdoor unit can sit quietly.

York city and its suburbs

The city and its suburbs have the widest mix of property we see: listed townhouses, modern flats and busy commercial premises, often on the same street.

York

Inside and around the walls, York mixes medieval streets, Georgian townhouses and Victorian terraces with offices, shops and hospitality venues. Much of the historic core is a conservation area, so unit positions need extra thought. See air conditioning in York.

Acomb

West of the centre, Acomb grew from a village into a large suburb with its own shopping street and a broad mix of terraces, interwar semis and post-war homes. More on air conditioning in Acomb.

Clifton

North of the city, Clifton runs from large period houses near the centre out towards the retail and business units of Clifton Moor. Read about air conditioning in Clifton.

Fulford

South of the centre along the A19, Fulford has older properties alongside newer developments, and gave its name to a battle fought in 1066. See air conditioning in Fulford.

Huntington

A large residential suburb to the north-east, close to the Monks Cross shopping area, with family homes built over many decades. Find out about air conditioning in Huntington.

Bishopthorpe

A village on the Ouse just south of the city, home to the Archbishop of York’s palace, with older cottages and later family housing. See air conditioning in Bishopthorpe.

Villages within easy reach of the city

Village homes often have more room outside for an outdoor unit. The flip side is that it’s quieter, so noise and neighbours need more thought.

Haxby

North of York, Haxby is a large village with a main street of shops and plenty of post-war and modern family homes. More on air conditioning in Haxby.

Strensall

Beyond Haxby, Strensall sits next to the open heathland of Strensall Common. The residential streets are quiet, so outdoor unit noise needs care. See air conditioning in Strensall.

Dunnington

East of the city, Dunnington has older village properties and newer estates, and plenty of homes have the garden space that makes positioning a unit easier. Read about air conditioning in Dunnington.

Copmanthorpe

South-west of York near the A64, Copmanthorpe is a commuter village with a historic core and a good deal of post-war housing. See air conditioning in Copmanthorpe.

Stamford Bridge

On the River Derwent east of York, Stamford Bridge is known for the battle of 1066 and has older village properties as well as newer homes. More on air conditioning in Stamford Bridge.

Market towns across the wider area

Each market town has a historic centre of shops, pubs and offices with newer housing round it, so we do both commercial and domestic work in all of them.

Tadcaster

A brewing town on the River Wharfe, Tadcaster has many buildings of pale local limestone as well as more modern housing and business premises. See air conditioning in Tadcaster.

Selby

On the Ouse and centred on its abbey, Selby has a traditional market-town centre with residential and commercial areas growing round it. Read about air conditioning in Selby.

Wetherby

A market town on the Wharfe, Wetherby has a centre full of shops and cafés and plenty of period and modern homes. More on air conditioning in Wetherby.

Easingwold

North of York, Easingwold is a small market town with a historic centre of brick buildings round its market place. See air conditioning in Easingwold.

Pocklington

At the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds, Pocklington is a market town with period properties near the centre and newer developments round the edges. Read about air conditioning in Pocklington.

Sherburn in Elmet

Between York and Leeds, Sherburn in Elmet has village-style streets, sizeable business and industrial premises and a lot of new housing. See air conditioning in Sherburn in Elmet.

Which council handles planning where you live?

It depends where your property is. If you’re not sure whether an outdoor unit needs permission, check with the right council before work starts. We’ll also point out anything that needs looking at during the survey.

Listed buildings and flats

Listed buildings and conservation areas usually need more care, and flats or leasehold properties normally need freeholder consent. The domestic air conditioning page explains more.
